West Brom Dismiss Eric Ramsay Following Disastrous Nine-Game Winless Streak
Eric Ramsay's brief tenure as West Brom manager has concluded abruptly after an unsuccessful nine-match spell that failed to produce a single victory. The Midlands club confirmed his dismissal late Tuesday evening at 11:15pm, bringing an end to what has been a challenging chapter for both parties.
The 34-year-old tactician, who previously served as a coach at Manchester United, joined the Baggies just last month following the departure of Ryan Mason. However, his time at The Hawthorns proved to be extremely difficult, with his winless record ultimately sealing his fate.
The decision came shortly after West Brom's 1-1 home draw against Charlton Athletic, a result that extended the club's overall winless stretch to 10 matches across all competitions, though Ramsay wasn't in charge for the first two of those fixtures.
Championship Survival at Stake
The situation at West Brom has become increasingly urgent. The club finds itself in 21st position in the Championship standings, sitting just a single point clear of the relegation places. With only a dozen matches remaining in the season, the threat of dropping to League One has become very real.
James Morrison will take charge on an interim basis as the club searches for a permanent solution to guide them through this critical period. Assistant coach Dennis Lawrence has also departed alongside Ramsay.
Accomplished Background, Disappointing Outcome
Ramsay arrived at West Brom with impressive credentials from his time at Old Trafford. He served on the coaching staff under multiple managers including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, and Erik ten Hag beginning in 2021. His multilingual abilities—being fluent in both Spanish and French—proved particularly valuable when helping integrate international players such as Casemiro into the squad.
Prior to accepting the West Brom position, Ramsay spent two seasons with Minnesota United in Major League Soccer. He also served briefly as assistant coach for the Welsh national team in 2023, where then-manager Rob Page lauded him as "arguably one of the best young coaches in football."
Following the draw with Charlton, Ramsay acknowledged his role in the club's struggles. "I can only do what I can do over the course of a day and put my head on the pillow at night feeling I've turned over every stone," he shared with BBC WM. Regrettably, his efforts proved insufficient to retain his position at the club.
