How do accumulators actually work? bit confused

newbie_punter22 2 months ago
ok so my mate keeps banging on about his acca that nearly came in last weekend and how he almost won like 500 quid off a fiver. i sort of get it? you pick a few teams and they all have to win? but i dont really understand how the odds add up or why one losing ruins the whole thing. someone explain it to me like im stupid please lol

yeah basically your mate is right, you stick multiple bets (legs) together and they ALL have to win for you to get paid. the reason the payout gets mad is because the odds multiply, not add. so if you've got 4 games each at 2.0 thats 2x2x2x2 = 16, so your fiver returns 80 quid. one leg loses and the whole thing is dead, doesnt matter if the other 3 came in. i mostly do mine on Rolletto cos they let you cash out early if you get nervous about the last leg, which has saved me a few times tbh. just dont go mad adding 12 teams thinking youll be rich, the bookies love that

can confirm this is spot on. the multiplying odds thing is what gets people, a fiver acca with decent odds can genuinely return silly money. did one over xmas, 5 teams, turned £10 into nearly £300. felt like a genius for about 4 days lol

idk man this sounds like a great way to lose your fiver every week. if one leg out of 5 has to lose for it all to go down, surely thats happening basically every single time? thats the catch isnt it

nah youre not wrong that most accas lose, thats just maths. but thats the trade off, low stake high reward. nobody is putting their rent on an acca (well they shouldnt be). its a bit of fun for a quid or two on a saturday. singles are way more reliable if you want consistent returns, accas are the lottery ticket version

fwiw the proper term for what dave described is that each selection's odds multiply together to give you the total acca odds. worth knowing some bookies offer acca insurance where if one leg lets you down they refund your stake as a free bet. read the terms though cos usually it has to be 5+ legs

wait so does the cash out thing dave mentioned mean i can take money before the last game even finishes?

yeah pretty much. if 4 of your 5 legs have come in and you're waiting on the last one, the app will offer you a cash out amount thats less than the full potential winnings but more than your stake. you take it and you're guaranteed that, or you let it ride and risk getting nowt. depends how brave you feel

ok dumb question but does it matter what order the games are in or do they all just count whenever they finish?

doesnt matter at all, order is irrelevant. they all just need to win at some point, whether they kick off saturday lunchtime or sunday night. the bet settles once the last one finishes

honestly accas are mug bets and ive lost more on them than im willing to admit. had a 6 fold last season, five came in and the LAST team conceded in the 94th minute. lost 400 quid of winnings on injury time. never again, gives me the rage just thinking about it

mate ive been there and it stings, but thats exactly what cash out is for. should have taken the money on the last leg honestly. doesnt make accas mug bets, just means you got greedy (we all do). small stakes and walk away when offered a decent cash out and theyre a laugh

just to add for the OP, theres different types too. a standard acca is everything must win. but theres also things like trixie and lucky 15 where you cover combinations so you can still win something even if one leg loses. costs more in stake cos youre placing multiple bets but less all or nothing. might be worth a look if the single losing leg thing puts you off

100% agree with the top comment. been doing small saturday accas for years now, never more than a fiver. occasionally one comes in and pays for the weekend, mostly they dont and i dont care cos its a fiver. the cash out feature is genuinely class for when youre sweating on the last result. keep stakes low and its proper fun
