honestly it depends on the country youre in. when i was in spain last summer half my apps just showed a blank screen or said the service wasnt available in my location. some still let me log in and check my account but wouldnt let me actually place a bet. what worked best for me was Rolletto cause they actually let me view everything and withdraw, just couldnt bet on certain markets. just dont expect everything to work like it does at home tbh

yeah can confirm, same thing happened to me in portugal. could log in fine and pull my money out but no new bets. at least i wasnt locked out completely which was my main fear

wait so is this because of the bookie or because of the country laws? bit confused on why some work and some dont

its the country mostly. uk licensed bookmakers are only allowed to take bets from people physically in the uk. so when youre abroad youre technically outside their license area and they geoblock you. nothing to do with your account being uk based as such, its where your phone/IP says you are

fwiw most of the big uk operators use geolocation tech so they know roughly where you are when you log in. some are stricter than others. spain has its own gambling regulator so uk firms cant just operate there

from what i understand its perfectly legal to access your account and manage it abroad, you just cant place wagers in most cases. nobodys account gets banned just for travelling, thats the main thing people worry about for no reason

ok dumb question but would using a vpn fix this? like set it to uk and bet normally?

technically a vpn might let you log in but i wouldnt do it mate. most bookies have it written in their terms that using a vpn to bypass location is against the rules and they can freeze your funds if they catch you. not worth losing your balance over a couple of bets imo

had an absolute nightmare with this. was in turkey, tried to withdraw my winnings and the whole app was blocked. couldnt even reach the account. took me ages of emailing support to sort it once i was home. ruined my trip a bit ngl

that sounds rough but turkey is super strict on gambling so thats kind of an extreme example. in most of europe ive been able to at least access my account and check balances, just not bet. depends massively on where you go

idk this all sounds a bit dodgy. how do they even know exactly where you are? cant you just turn off location services on your phone and theyll think youre still home?

nah it doesnt work like that. they dont just rely on your phone gps, they look at your IP address too which gives away the country youre connecting from. turning off location settings does nothing because the IP still says spain or wherever. they cross reference a few things

just to add, some countries are totally fine. ive logged in and bet no problem in places like germany on certain sites but spain and france were a no go for me. really is a case by case thing depending on local regs

worth checking the specific bookies help pages before you travel honestly. a lot of them have a section about using accounts abroad and list which countries are restricted. saves the surprise when youre already out there

can second the top comment, i was away in greece earlier this year and could still get into my account and check things fine. couldnt place much but managing the balance was no issue at all. as long as you go in expecting limited functionality youll be alright
