tired_of_spam_99 2 months ago

had the exact same nightmare mate. the unsubscribe link DOES work eventually but some of them take like 14 days to fully process so dont expect instant results. what actually helped me was going into my account settings on each site and turning off marketing comms there directly, way more reliable than the email link. also if you want to keep betting but without the spam, Rolletto actually lets you toggle all the marketing stuff off properly in your prefs and it stuck for me. just stay patient cos a few of the dodgier ones genuinely ignore unsubscribe requests

yeah can confirm the account settings thing works better than the email links. did this on 3 different sites and the emails dropped off within a week or so. the unsubscribe button is honestly a bit of a trap, half the time it just confirms your email is active lol

honestly some of these companies are SHOCKING. i unsubscribed from one back in march and STILL get their emails. reported them in the end cos its actually illegal to keep emailing after youve opted out. absolute joke that they get away with it

to be fair not all of them are like that. ive opted out of a fair few and most respected it straight away. the one that keeps emailing you is probably just one bad apple, dont tar everyone with the same brush. report that specific one though, youre right to

fwiw under uk gdpr/pecr rules they legally have to stop sending marketing once you opt out, and they have to give you an easy way to do it. so if one keeps going after youve unsubscribed thats actually a breach

wait does unsubscribing from emails also stop the texts? cos im getting bombarded by those too and idk if its the same opt out or separate

no theyre usually separate unfortunately. emails and sms are different consent channels. you normally have to opt out of each one. for texts most of them you can reply STOP and that handles it, or again do it in account settings

something worth knowing is GAMSTOP if youre trying to cut down entirely. when you register with that it stops a lot of the marketing from licensed uk operators automatically, not just the gambling access. bit of a sledgehammer if you just want less spam though

also you can register your number with the TPS for cold calls and use a separate junk email for any new signups. i learned that the hard way after using my main email for everything. now i just have a throwaway gmail for this kind of stuff

does any of this actually work though? feels like every time i unsubscribe i somehow end up on MORE lists. like they sell your data on or something. genuinely doubt clicking a button does anything

nah it does work, i was skeptical too but the legit licensed uk ones genuinely have to comply. the data selling thing is more an issue with random offshore sites you should never sign up to in the first place. stick to proper regulated operators and the opt out actually holds

if a company straight up ignores your opt out who do you even complain to? is it worth the hassle or do they just ignore that too

you complain to the ICO (information commissioners office). takes 5 mins online and theyve actually fined gambling firms over this before. wont fix it overnight but enough complaints and it puts pressure on them. worth doing imo

one thing nobody mentioned, check your spam settings too. sometimes emails you thought you unsubscribed from change their sender address slightly so they sneak past filters. i set up a rule to bin anything with certain words and it cleaned things up loads

second the account settings advice from the top comment, that was the only thing that properly worked for me. spent ages clicking unsubscribe links doing nothing then turned off marketing prefs in my account in like 30 seconds and it actually stopped. wish id done that first tbh
