Liverpool Legend Steve Nicol Auctioning FA Cup Medal with £20,000 Price Tag
A piece of Liverpool FC history is going under the hammer as Steve Nicol's 1986 FA Cup winner's medal hits the auction block with an estimated value between £10,000 and £20,000. The medal commemorates the Reds' 3-1 victory over local rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby final at Wembley Stadium.
The Scottish defender spent 13 seasons at Anfield, collecting three FA Cup titles, a European Cup trophy, and the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year honour. Now, fans and collectors worldwide will have the opportunity to acquire memorabilia from his decorated career.
London-based Propstore auction house will conduct the sale between April 21 and May 14, featuring over 50 items from Nicol's playing days. While the FA Cup medal headlines the collection, numerous other significant pieces are up for grabs.

The 1984 European Cup medal represents perhaps the most historically significant item in the collection. Liverpool's triumph over AS Roma in a dramatic penalty shootout at the Italian club's home stadium remains one of the most memorable European nights in the club's storied history. Despite its historical weight, the medal carries a lower estimate than the FA Cup hardware — a reflection of the domestic market's stronger appetite for FA Cup memorabilia, particularly from all-Merseyside finals.
Nicol reflects on parting with treasured items
"These items hold many personal memories," the 64-year-old Nicol explained, "but I'm pleased to be offering them through Propstore, where they'll go to fans and collectors who share that passion for the game."
After departing Liverpool in the mid-1990s, Nicol had brief spells with Notts County, Sheffield Wednesday, and Doncaster Rovers before relocating to the United States in 1999. He went on to build a successful coaching and broadcasting career in Major League Soccer. The autographed MLS All-Star shirt — bearing signatures from icons like Beckham and Donovan — serves as a reminder of Nicol's significant contribution to football on both sides of the Atlantic.
Propstore's memorabilia specialist Alastair McCrea emphasized the rarity of the offering: "It's not often that material of this quality and provenance becomes available." For serious collectors, this represents a rare opportunity. For those who witnessed Nicol's dominant performances during Liverpool's First Division reign in the late 1980s, it's a chance to own tangible history from one of English football's greatest dynasties.
Bidding is open to participants worldwide. The FA Cup medal's valuation alone positions this as one of the most important Liverpool memorabilia auctions in recent memory.
