Mexico Launches Adidas Third Jersey Ahead of Historic 2026 World Cup

"This new jersey represents much more than design innovation; it is a manifestation of the Mexican spirit in every thread," says Pablo Cavallero from Adidas Mexico. For once, the marketing language actually delivers when you examine what the sportswear giant has created.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup set to begin next month, Adidas has unveiled Mexico's third jersey under the concept 'The Mexican Wa(y)ve' — featuring a sleek black design with a subtle tonal 'MX' pattern throughout. The collar bears the words 'Somos México' (We Are Mexico), while the iconic red, white and green colours flow through the Adidas stripes on the sleeves. It's minimalist in all the right ways. No excessive graphics, no gimmicky prints. Simply a jersey that understands its purpose.

Beyond a simple kit release

The design carries significance that extends beyond visual appeal. Mexico will make history as the only country to host three FIFA World Cups when the tournament commences — and this jersey explicitly honours that achievement. That's a genuine milestone, and building the kit around national identity rather than pure marketing spectacle provides it with meaning that most kit releases fail to capture.

Together with the third jersey, Adidas has launched a special collection in partnership with Someone Somewhere, a Mexican social enterprise that bridges traditional indigenous craftsmanship with contemporary design. The six-piece collection showcases work by female artisans from the Naupan community in Puebla's Sierra Norte region. The collection's highlight is a limited edition Artisan Jersey — a lifestyle interpretation of the third kit featuring a polo collar and intricate embroidered details.

Someone Somewhere's business model centres on providing fair wages to artisans who would otherwise lack viable markets for their traditional crafts. Connecting this initiative to a World Cup kit launch, in the host country, just weeks before kickoff — both the timing and purpose resonate authentically.

What it means for match day

As Mexico's third kit option, this jersey will likely appear during group stage matches where kit conflicts require the alternate strip. El Tri face a challenging group, and home crowd support will be thunderous — but the jersey won't win matches on its own. How manager Javier Aguirre's squad handles the immense pressure of hosting remains the crucial question. The kit simply needs to look sharp while they compete.

Both the third jersey and the Someone Somewhere collection are available immediately through Adidas retailers globally.
