Inter Miami Unveils $350 Million Stadium Featuring Dedicated Messi Stand Ahead of Austin FC Opener
Co-owner Jorge Mas described it as "a stadium that was born out of a dream." Just six years after Inter Miami's inception, the club now boasts a state-of-the-art $350 million facility complete with a section honouring its most famous player. Lionel Messi is anticipated to feature in the starting lineup when the venue officially debuts on Saturday against Austin FC.
During Thursday's open training session for season ticket members, David Beckham was amongst the first to test the pitch. Messi, alongside Rodrigo De Paul and Luis Suárez, soon joined in, offering thousands of supporters their initial glimpse of the 26,700-capacity ground. The inaugural match kicks off April 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Purpose-Built Venue Designed for Atmosphere
The stadium embraces a European-inspired, football-specific blueprint. Compact, acoustically intense, and constructed exclusively for soccer—not adapted from baseball infrastructure or time-shared with gridiron franchises. Mas envisions it becoming "the home of football in the United States," and the architectural approach supports that vision.
The seating arrangement features alternating pink, grey, and white colours, with black seats forming both the Inter Miami wordmark and a heron silhouette throughout the stands. Oversized photographs commemorating the club's 2025 MLS Cup championship campaign adorn the main concourse. Every design element reinforces a singular narrative: this organization has established its legitimacy.
The Leo Messi Stand—encompassing sections 117-121 on the lower tier and 217-223 above—honours the two-time MLS Most Valuable Player. Dedicating stadium sections to an active player remains extraordinarily rare across professional football. Mas revealed he informed Messi personally: "For a living player, that's unheard of. It's going to be amazing."
Question Marks Over Messi's Match Readiness
One significant consideration remains. Messi participated in limited training capacity following international duty with Argentina over two matches, though he's projected to start Saturday. This qualification should give bettors pause when evaluating Inter Miami's home opener—not due to Austin FC's quality, but because a potentially compromised Messi in an emotionally charged inaugural fixture represents uncertainty rather than guaranteed performance.
Manager Javier Mascherano offered straightforward commentary: "Hopefully, Saturday, the stadium will be full. It's almost sold out. It'll be a great day for everybody that has been with the club."
