HOPS FC Secure Indian Women's League Promotion After Dominant Undefeated Campaign

Perfect record. Eight goals scored. Zero conceded. HOPS FC dominated the IWL 2 final round in Bengaluru with an unblemished performance, securing their promotion back to the Indian Women's League just one year after relegation.

This remarkable turnaround was no fluke. The Delhi-based club completely restructured their coaching staff before the season, appointing Ravi Kumar Punia as head coach and Sonika Vijarniya as senior coach to rebuild a squad that had previously finished bottom of the IWL standings. The results were nothing short of exceptional. HOPS FC topped Group B during qualification with four straight victories, then dominated the final round with a perfect 15 points from five matches against Juba Sangha, Kemp FC, Krida Prabodhini, Mumbai Knights, and Suruchi Sangha.

A Foundation Built on Community, Not Commerce

HOPS FC stands apart from conventional football organizations. The club operates without corporate sponsors or commercial investment. Instead, it functions through the Dharam Foundation Trust, established by government engineer Sanjay Yadav, who has run football development initiatives since 2008. Players benefit from complimentary training, housing, comprehensive medical care — including support for ACL and ligament reconstruction surgeries — and career placement assistance beyond their playing days.

The club's impact extends well beyond the pitch. More than 60 players affiliated with HOPS FC have obtained government and armed forces positions through sports quota systems. Over 40 young women have completed coaching certification or referee licensing programs. Multiple academy graduates have worn Indian colours at youth international level, including participation in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. These achievements rarely appear in standard club announcements.

Senior coach Vijarniya emphasized the daily struggles many of these athletes face simply to continue competing. The promotion represents validation of something far greater than tactical success.

Looking Ahead to the Top Flight

HOPS FC arrives in the IWL with previous experience. Their debut campaign saw them reach the quarterfinals, followed by a fifth-place finish before relegation. That institutional knowledge proves valuable. The squad understands top-division requirements, and their defensive organization throughout this promotion run — recording five consecutive clean sheets in the final round — demonstrates Punia has established genuine tactical discipline.

The legitimate question remains whether they can maintain IWL status this time around. The top division presents significantly tougher opposition than what they encountered in Bengaluru, and operating without corporate funding limits squad investment capabilities. However, a side that didn't concede a single goal throughout the entire final round deserves respect.
