Those are the words Oscar used to describe the harrowing November incident that brought his football career to an abrupt end — not through injury, not via transfer, but through a life-threatening medical emergency. During a routine São Paulo training session, the Brazilian's heart stopped beating, forcing an immediate end to his playing days.

The 34-year-old midfielder made his retirement official this past Saturday. Given the circumstances, it was the only decision he could make.

A distinguished career across three continents

Over his professional journey, Oscar registered 556 appearances, netting 136 goals and providing 203 assists. His path took him from São Paulo to Internacional, then to Chelsea in England, before landing at Shanghai SIPG in China — a career arc that saw him navigate Brazilian football, conquer the Premier League, and become one of the marquee signings during China's lucrative football expansion.

Oscar also earned 48 caps for Brazil's national team, scoring 12 goals and collecting a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
